6th and 6th and 6th = ?
i guess i can't do any better then 6th this week.
i went through the day kinda sore and feeling woodenleg, ya know trying to ride hard after dragging yourself up a steep mtn don't work so hot.
and we get down to the finishing circuit and i feel great so i float the back for the first 4 of 6 laps, then get up front via the dominator, and ride the wave in. a little battle in the last k, nothing too gnarly. came around one dude, look up and see there are 5 more in front.

all i can do is smile and shake my head.
i'm back in sunny cali for now, but i'm going back to ATL for some crits next week. can't wait to get up into the hills.

At the Chattanooga Choo-Choo
We're in Tennessee now, just got done with a super twisty TT that didn't go so well. i went full gas but got caught by my 2 minute man, Grajales on the Nav's. yeah, not good for the head.
it was pretty warm and steamy, and a weather front was threatening to dump on us, not good prospects when there's some fast s-turn decents in several sections. i fortunately got in ahead of that, but lightning just struck the parking lot right next to our team car...i'm glad i'm not out there with the mechanics right now.
the Chattanooga Choo-Choo is the old railway depot here in town, and now it's converted into a holiday inn. the view out the window is an old rail car. kinda unique.

Tuesday
Tour de Georgia has started
We're in Macon (rhymes with Bacon) after riding here from Augusta for 130 miles in 4:45. Fast day. I kept on looking down when I thought we were chilling out and it was 45-50 KPH and the little avg. speed pace arrow on the Cateye was pointing down.
At the start we were sent off by James Brown in person, he's still a cool old cat. And he's got a BIG entourage.
I also saw these guys:

I don't know where they came from but I swear I didn't put them up to it...
I survived the hurly-burly at the finish line (a Phil Liggett line) for a 6th place finish. Eh, could have been better, but Ivan went down in the last corner right in front of me and I spent a ton of energy making it through that ordeal, and then closing the gap right in front of me.
Dinner time.

Chase hanging at the Sea Otter

Sea Otter was big for us, we had the SRAM presentation, plus Sierra Nevada was a sponsor as well so we did a lot of booth time and promo events. one was Suzette walking around with a bag of hats she couldn't give away, and all she wanted to do was get us to put them on and take out pic. first off, it sounds like more head lice then a second grade classroom, plus what's with having swag that you can't hand out? that's the whole point of Sea Otter, right?
anyway, my pic was of me and Chase hanging out.
I know I speak for everyone when I say...
I'm getting really sick of the rain.

i did 200k yesterday and it rained hard on me for 4 of 6 hours, but i have to say it's feeling like spring now as it's pushing 55-60 degrees and i wasn't too cold. but you still have to stay out of the hills, it was 4 degrees C according to the SRM on summit rd. not pleasant when the only place to go is down.

Hanging with the Calenders
We have a great host family, we stayed with them last year and they made
sure we came back. It's awesome people like this that make bike racing so
much fun in America, I've been so fortunate to have met so many good people
like the Calenders who enthusiastically open their homes to us, feed us,
take care of us and are truly interested in the trials and tribulations of
pro bike racing.
SRAM Press Launch
we've been in Carmel this week doing the SRAM big press launch. it's been a huge affair, we are at the Quail Lodge a quaint little place in Carmel Valley with 27 of the world's leading journalists from every mag and website you look at every day, talking and living and breathing SRAM, Force, Rival, DoubleTap, Exact Accuation, and all things associated with the new road groupo.
it's been great getting the word out (finally), and to see so many people happy to be riding the stuff. it's been a long hard road for the people from Chicago, i'm glad to see them finally birth their child and be proud parents.
it's kinda fun to be always on, talking with journos all day, putting my experiences out there for them to absorb and trying to talk about this product line that i am becoming so intimately involved with. it's strange though, i am used to being the only guy with the SRAM parts on my bike, today i just did a ride with 50 people, all completely SRAM equipped.
we've just moved on, and are now at the host house for the Sea Otter weekend. we have a lot of PR to take care of, i'll try to post pics of our activities. i know we'll be at the Sierra Nevada and SRAM booths on friday, we might even be pouring some beers!

Monday
More Kodak Galleries posted...
...in the side bar. we went to SC sat for a good ride for me, a visit with family for goldi, and then a walk on the coast together. there's also pics of us in Palm Springs lounging poolside after redlands.
Chase's green friend named BOB

Chase got a new stroller/jogger/urban assault vehicle made by BOB. we finally got sick of lugging a crappy stroller around town that didn't fold well, was too heavy and felt like you were pushing a brick around. this thing is light, rolls so smooth it's almost funny how hard we had to work to get the other one to move, and fits better in the trunk. plus, it's got shocks...pegs...LUCKY!!
A big thanks to the guys at Family Cycling Center for setting us up with the cool rig. those guys have been looking after me for years an I always come out of there happy.
