Like Taking Candy From A Baby

Happy Halloween.

Wednesday

What a difference...

I want you to take your arm and raise it above your head, straight up. Now compare where your wrist is to Chase's. He's got a BIG head. Or a baby head, I think they're all like this.

Thursday

The blinds...

They're so beautiful...

Tuesday

getting in the swing of things

i think the routine has settled in, that is i'm used to doing things with zero sleep and staying up half the night. i walk around as if through a fog, and woe is the person who made plans with me, i'm sure i forgot. i'm seriously trying here, people, but when the eyes close there's nothing i can do about it.

i did go to the Velo Bella race, an awesome event and full of sass as expected. a killer course with five steep runs, a big drop in straight down into the start-finish area, lots of twisties and tricks. i felt good again, not cuz i got any sleep, lordy no, i had none of that, but i pulled out the win none-the-less. i thought i was going to bust a lung several times, though. i heard several "go faster" and "make it look harder" comments from hecklers who obviously forgot their race not a hour or two before and how hard the course was. i was hurting, people, i've just perfected my poker face over the years. i had a blast though, and a big thanks to all the Bellas who worked so hard to make the first race go off great. i can't wait for the halloween race, i have an idea for a costume already.

Chase was a month on sunday too, he's starting to come out of his shell (my mom says he's hatching) and seriously interact with everybody. he already knows where the action is, and he was flirting with all the Bellas in his suave little way. nothing like little cooing noises to melt a girl's heart, right? just wait til you have to change his diaper; honeymoon's over then. he's giving everyone big smiles now and is awake a fair bit more, so i'm getting to see what he likes (the blinds) and doesn't (being alone). also, he wears himself out a bit during the day with all his flirting and inspection, so he's adding 30-90 minutes to every night sleep session. may not sound like a lot but it's like nectar to exhausted parents.

i also found out how to work Skype on my computer and so i've been talking to my bro in Taipei for free and it's easier to get coordinated with the IM right there too. if you need to talk overseas check it out it could save you a ton of money.

Back to work, the baby's crying.

Monday

This one's for you, Baby!

I went out to the central coast race this weekend, my first foray into CX this year. It hurt pretty good, I felt rusty at first (as evidenced by my first lap crash) but soon got into the groove and took the win by a comfortable margin. I've forgotten how much fun 'cross is, riding the bikes fast, remembering skills, having fun. I think I'm going to try and get to a few more races this winter, but the season has already gone on without me, so I'll be doing the races for fun and as training for the next road season.

It's good to take a win though, and I dedicate this one to Chase, my new son, and my wife Goldi. They've renewed my love of life and shown me just how hard I can work; I'm extra motivated to raise and support my family.

Chase has been earning new nicknames, such as "piggly wiggly" for the snorting he does when rooting around, or "mud butt" courtesy of Dave Chappelle. It's hard to keep a straight face when he's crying as hard as possible and snorting with every breath, which is often. I swear we're not laughing at you Chase, we're laughing with you.
