and finally, i did a nice ride out to the coast, this is me up on old highway 1 (last used in 1932) above Half Moon Bay.

Where is this Old HWY 1 that you speak of?
it comes out of pacifica and climbs at a very steady grade about twice as high as the current hwy. 1. it crests directly above the tunnel bore they're doing right now, and then decends on dirt to a gate just north of HMB. it's in okay condition, basically a paved singletrack on the way up and decent gravel/pavement mix on the way down.
