"The rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated"

so for all of you who read the live report on the Amgen ToC site, i did not go to the hospital today.

Time: 11:16:55
Ben Jacques-Maynes has been taken to the hospital because of the earlier crash

what really happened today:

i rode around in the group, avoided a crash, made the front split over the first KOM, then motorpaced on the euro train for 4 hours into SLO, where i finished 13th. it really was a trasition stage, and it felt a lot like georgia, just rolling along. except for the spectacular view of the ocean to the right all day. that was nothing like georgia, there's no views in georgia.

Good thing we weren't following the Amgen site.

whew.

And kudos for cleverness under stage racing conditions.

Congrats on an awesome race so far! Wierd to think you rode your bike so far from us in one day. You're like, in SoCal now. Well Almost.

Amgen, makers of EPO, can't get hot women to hand the podium goers flowers, and now report Jake-Main is dead. But hey they're sponsoring a great race so don't want to complain too much. You are okay, right? Or is this Goldi typing this for you? Do I sense a conspiracy going on here? How exactly does a bullet turn?

San Marcos pass - just keep your fingers crossed none o' them there farmers decides to pull out his tractor inside the rolling closure. Interesting that Floyd said that stage will be easier to control. Yikes - there is a ton of climbing (and one biggun') on that road. I haven't been on it in ages, but the road surface used to be really rough for asphalt.

Whew! Glad to hear it. I apologize for freaking out any of our mutual Berkeley acquaintances with a flurry of concerned phonecalls yesterday.
